Functional Testing

Understanding what's really going on inside your body

Ever feel like you're doing all the right things but still not seeing the results you want? That's where functional testing comes in. Instead of guessing what might be happening, testing gives us a clear picture of how your body is functioning right now and helps uncover the root causes behind your symptoms.

As a BANT registered nutritional therapist, I use specialised laboratory testing to look beyond the surface and understand the underlying drivers of your symptoms. This means the nutrition and lifestyle plan we create together is based on your biology, not guesswork.

Take the Guesswork Out of Your Health Journey

By identifying underlying imbalances, we can create a plan that actually works for you, so you reach your health goals faster.

Some tests I use

Depending on your symptoms, history and goals, testing may include:

  • Comprehensive stool analysis - assessing gut health, microbiome balance, digestive function and markers of inflammation

  • Hormone testing - including cortisol patterns, oestrogen metabolism and thyroid markers, particularly useful for women experiencing perimenopause or cycle-related symptoms

  • Advanced cardiovascular panels - going beyond basic cholesterol to look at inflammation markers and a fuller picture of heart health

  • Micronutrient testing - identifying deficiencies in key vitamins and minerals such as vitamin D, B12, magnesium and zinc

  • Nutrigenomic testing - analysing how nutrition, lifestyle and environment influence gene expression, providing insights into your unique nutritional needs to create truly personalised strategies that support energy, metabolism, recovery and long-term health

Not every client needs a test. We'll always discuss whether testing is likely to add real value for your situation before you commit to anything.

Who Might Benefit?

Functional testing tends to be most valuable if you:

  • Have ongoing symptoms that haven't been explained by standard testing

  • Have tried dietary changes before but haven't seen the results you expected

  • Are dealing with multiple symptoms that feel connected

  • Want a truly personalised approach based on your own biology

  • Have a diagnosed condition and want to understand the nutritional picture

Functional testing isn't right for everyone and I'll always be honest with you about that. But for the right person, it can be genuinely transformative. It removes the guesswork, saves time and means every recommendation I make is grounded in evidence.

If you're curious whether testing could help you, the best place to start is a free discovery call. We'll talk through your symptoms and goals, and I'll let you know honestly whether testing is likely to make a difference for you.
